Addressed to Theodore Menzel, a fellow scientist and German-American resident, the letter responds to Menzel’s request for a personal visit to discuss technical research conducted in Death Valley. In his reply, Einstein politely declines the meeting, offering instead to answer questions in writing. His translated words:
“It may well be quite inconvenient for you to visit me here in Watch Hill. I will be happy to also answer your questions in writing, as far as I can.”
